Clear rules for clear statements.
At your request, we evaluate whether a test result meets the requirement. Because every measured value has a measurement uncertainty, such a conformity statement requires a fixed decision rule. Here you can see which one we use.
Which rule applies?
- Your specificationIf you define a decision rule, it applies.
- Standard or specificationIf the standard or delivery specification prescribes a rule, we apply it.
- Our ruleIf neither applies, the decision rule of fem‑SMS GmbH applies.
Decision Rule of fem-SMS GmbH
Shared Risk
Simple acceptance according to ILAC-G8:09/2019, section 4.2.1: the measured value is compared directly with the limit, without a guard band for measurement uncertainty. “Shared risk” refers to the manufacturer and the customer of the tested product. For values close to a limit, a statement may be wrong in either direction due to measurement uncertainty.
All values are within the required limits or exactly at them.
At least one value is outside the required limits.
Good to know
- Unless otherwise agreed, the rule described above applies.
- In the test report, we specify which decision rule was applied.
- If you need more certainty, for example for approvals, we are happy to agree on a rule with a guard band.
- Conformity statements refer exclusively to the tested samples. All other matters are governed by our General Terms and Conditions.
